User generated market to address pain points in recruitment business.

Rezoomex proposes to use the same concept used by travel portals like orbitz, you tube and amazon to create a marketplace for recruiters and candidates to find good consultants. Candidates and employers would be able to post review remarks and ratings of consultants. Consultants themselves will be able to publish their focus areas and special skills. The portal will also publish success metrics for each consultant such as number of resumes , vacancies, interviews and recentness of activities.
Candidate

Too many jobsites. Need some one to go through them and find out a suitable job for me.

Posting my resume on a job site exposes it to the world. I want confidentiality.

I don’t know how good a consultant is. I am wary of handing over my resume to an unknown agency.

Employer

Too many job sites. Where will I search?

Is there a single place from where I can announce a vacancy to a selected few consultants?

Some one needs to do the legwork such as pre-screening, arranging interviews and following up. Job sites don’t address this pain point.

Consultant

Need a sleek way to automate my business

All consultants search and download resumes from the same job sites resulting in duplication/clashes.

Adding more value by digitizing resumes and building a data-warehouse of resumes.

Rezoomex - a starfish using web2.0 to elongate the tail of recruitment business

A quarter of a century back we were just a handful of recruitment consultants in Pune, India which used to be a sleepy "pensioner's paradise" with a very laid back approach to business. Globalization of the 90's saw the arrival of big executive search and recruitment firms having operations spread across the globe. With the advent of the Internet and job portals where candidates can publish their resumes to a large population of recruiters;resulted in a multitude of recruitment consultants who are thriving on an apparently insatiable demand for talent. The recent boom in IT recruitment catalyzed this process.

The long tail of the recruitment consulting market
At this time there are a few thousand individual consultants and firms engaged in the recruitment business. This number seems to be going up every month. This is a phenomenon quite similar to the one described by Chris Andersen in his book called The Long Tail .In this book Chris also describes the role of an “Aggregator” – a pre requisite this phenomenon to occur. Aggregators like e-Bay, iTunes, Amazon, Flikr, You Tube and Salesforce.com are characterized by –

1. Its free – financed by advertising or by sponsors who benefit from the application.
2. There is minimum check or quality control on the content that is hosted there. Quality is a result of a self imposed discipline.
3. The aggregator enables customers to search from among thousands of content providers in the long tail. Customers can also rate the providers and feely post their opinions – thus providing valuable information to other customers and feedback to the providers.

Rezoomex as an aggregator
Rezoomex plans to provide free hosting to recruitment services who will be able offer the following content to their customers

1.Candidates can Upload resumes and provide some minimum information.
2.Employers and candidates can search the right consultant and provide review comments about the consultants – both positive and negative.
3.Enable communication between candidates, employers and consultants with contact information masked wherever required.
4.Employers can search resumes, publish vacancies and schedule interviews
5.Candidates can view historical record of vacancies where s/he was sponsored, selected or rejected.
6.Employer can view historical record of candidates who were forwarded, interviewed, selected or rejected.
7.Recruiters can download a manual/ book giving tips on running the recruitment business.
8.Recruiter can have his own web page, letter head and visiting cards.
Rezoomex plans to evolve as a Star Fish and not a Spider
In their book The Star Fish and the Spider Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom have observed that aggregators such as e-Bay , Napster or Skype evolve more as peer to peer networks with the following characteristics

1.There is no CEO with command and control.
The Rezoomex Vision

This is a rather futuristic blog - so pessimists and practical people be forewarned. Others can enjoy and post here to jointly create - what I prefer to call the Rezoomex Vision.

Evolution of the resume

A few years back you only could think of it as a printed document covering details of age, education, experience etc. Some added their picture to the hard copy. Contact information consisted of mailing address and telephone number.

Today we can't think of a resume that is not in one of the electronic forms - either a word document or an HTML page on one of the job portals. Contact information can contain cell phone number, email address, URL to the personal page or blog , IM id etc. Resumes in this form can be copied, forwarded, printed, edited and the individual can be accessed by one of the many means of communication.

As storage and bandwidth become cheaper - people will start embellishing their resumes with video clips of themselves in a mock interview , links to their work or their postings on professional groups on the web. Gradually the resume will evolve to be a meaningful identity in the cyberspace.

New ways to search and reach

As the resumes are published in their electronic form; they can be searched using tools like job portals or search engines. Going forward resumes can be digitized by services such as Rezoomex to enable analysis of populations of individuals categorized by occupation, age, geographical location, experience etc. Such analysis can yeild valuable information about likes, dislikes, aspirations and expectations of these groups. This analysis can be valuable for marketers, search engines, prospective employers or other professionals seeking networking oppotunities. This evolutionary step will position the "electronic identities" in a multi dimensional space - thus forming patterns in the populations that could evolve to become electronic communities and neighbourhoods.

Some pain points that need to be addressed

Individuals don't like being reached - they prefer picking and choosing from a deluge of signals that are beamed at them. Often they hide behind aliases or assumed identities or just stay anonymous.

One individual tends to have many electronic identities or profiles leading to some kind of "electronic schizophrenia" - managing these identities and multiple profiles and passwords is a nightmare. Attempts to simplify things by a single sign on or form fill utilities are helping.

A need to professionally collaborate and safely transact is felt by all. Can there be some mechanism to allow individuals to create electronic identities that help them securely collaborate, offer anonymity and manage the interface?

Rezoomex vision of e-identities

Individuals will collaborate to form groups who will position themselves as single e-identity having one e-mail address, IM id and even one phone number. These e-identites will take care of the concerns of security, anonymity, management and collaboration. E.g. secretaries from different time zones around the world can pose as a super-secretary who is omni present and works 24 X 7. Or you could simply call the same number anytime anywhere you require help with air conditioning. This can be a result of a group of air conditioning engineers coming together to collaborate and create an e-identity that has 100+ years of cumulative experience.

Related Reading

This article by Guy Kawasaki is a must read for any one engaged in recruiting. If you need to play by the rules laid down by Guy; you need to have enough choice. That's where Rezoomex helps you by managing the pipeline to present the choice to a prospective recruiter.
